MATHEMATICS Prove the Bible is Inspired

How can we prove that “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Tim. 3:16)? How do we know “God spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets” (Hebrews 1:1)? What proof is there that “He (the Lord) spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets” (Luke 1:70)? One of the proofs built into Scripture is called GEMATRIA. Both Hebrew and Greek letters also represent numbers. These numbers have meaning. For instance Abraham had 318 servants (Gen. 14:14) and the name of his servant "Eliezer" (15:2) has a Hebrew value of 318. Solomon's WEALTH included an annual income of 666 talents of gold (1 Kings 10.14) and the Greek word "euporia" (WEALTH) also adds up to 666. The Hebrew words "I am Yahweh, I change not" (Mal. 3:6) add up to 888 and the Greek name Jesus appears 888 times in the New Testament. The name also has a Greek value of 888. Even the vocabulary of Revelation contains exactly 888 words. Written in Hebrew, "YESHUA saves" gives 777 and the Greek phrase "Love of God" (Rom. 8:39) also adds up to 777. Why does the Hebrew word "Satan" have a numerical value of 359? Because December 25th is the 359th day of the year, and because the very first time the word Satan appears in the KJV Bible is in the 359th chapter of the Bible -- in 1 Chronicles 21:1.

The Number ONE -- Unity

"I and the Father are ONE" (John 10.30). And "in that day the Lord will be the only ONE" (Zech 14.9)."Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord" (Deut. 6:4). "The glory which you have given Me I have given them, that they may be ONE, just as We are ONE" (John 17.22)."There is ONE body, and ONE spirit, even as ye are called in ONE hope of your calling; ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism, ONE God and Father of all, who is above all and through all in you all" (Eph. 4:4-6).

The Number TWO -- Witness

"Out of the mouth of TWO witnesses every word shall be established" (Matt. 18:16). Two witnesses are required to prove a point (Deut. 19:15; 2 Cor. 13:1; Rev. 11:3) so Jesus sent His disciples out TWO by TWO. In marriage, TWO become one flesh (Gen. 2:24). In terms of division: "a DOUBLE-minded man is unstable in all his ways" (James 1.8). "No one can serve TWO masters" (Mat 6.24). Man has TWO natures, one in conflict with the other (Rom 7:14-25). "Wisdom" appears 222 times in the Bible. "Armageddon" adds up to 222 in Hebrew. "Tithe" = 222 in Hebrew gematria. "Chariot" = 222 in Hebrew gematria (2 Ki. 2:11). "John the Baptist" = 2220 (cp. John 1:8) and "Sun of Righteousness" = 2220. In Acts 2:22 we read about "miracles and signs and wonders" which are witnesses. The two hundred and twenty-second verse in the Bible is Genesis 9:16 that mentions the rainbow.

The Number THREE -- Resurrection

There are THREE dimensions: height, length and breadth. A substance such as water can exist in THREE states: solid, liquid and gas. H2O can be water, ice or steam. "Destroy this temple and in THREE days I will raise it up" (Jn 2.19). Abraham journeyed THREE days to offer up Isaac (Gen. 22:1-4). THREE days after Passover, Israel journeyed through a burial in the sea and a resurrection to dry land (Ex. 8:7; 12:18; 14:1-31). There are THREE cases in the OT where people were raised from the dead (1 Ki. 17:21; 2 Ki. 4:16 and 2 Ki. 13:21), and Jesus raised THREE people from the dead in His earthly ministry (the widow's son -- Luke 7:15, Jairus's daughter -- Luke 8:41 and Lazarus -- John 11:43). "Lazarus, come forth" is THREE words, and the THIRD word is THREE letters in Greek. The account of Saduccees asking Jesus about the resurrection is recorded in THREE Gospels (Matt. 22:23-32; Mark 12:18-27; Luke 20:27). Jesus said THREE times "I will raise him up at the last day" (John 6:40; 6:44; 6:54). THREE disciples saw the vision of the transformation of THREE men: Moses, Elijah and Christ in Matthew 17:9. Jesus was tried before THREE courts -- San Hedrin, Pilate and Herod (Matt. 26:57-75; 27:1-25; Luke 23:4-11). He was crucified with two others, making THREE crosses (Matt. 27:38). The inscription on his cross was in THREE languages -- Hebrew, Greek and Latin (John 19:20). The sun was darkened for THREE hours (Matt. 27:45). There were THREE women mentioned by name who visited his grave after he was resurrected -- Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome (Mark 16:1). Just as the sun was darkened for THREE hours, our Lord was in the grave THREE days (Matt. 27:45). The sun, moon and stars all go down under the horizon. But all THREE rise again. "So also is the resurrection of the dead" (1 Cor. 15:41-42). Jesus showed himself to his disciples THREE times after his resurrection. The THIRD floor is associated with a resurrection (Acts 20:7-12). Finally, there are THREE sounds: "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a SHOUT, with the VOICE of the archangel, and with the TRUMP of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (1 Th. 4:16-17).

The Number FOUR -- Creation

There are FOUR points of the compass, FOUR seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. FOUR primitive elements (earth, air, fire and water), FOUR living creatures around God's throne (Ez. 1:5-17; Rev 4.6). There are FOUR tides in a day and night: two incoming and two outgoing. FOUR rivers (Pison, Gihon, Hiddekel & Euphrates) (Gen. 2:10-14). The word "grass" is used FOUR times in Isaiah 40:4-8. The angels will gather the elect "from the FOUR winds" (Mat 24.31). There are FOUR world kingdoms in Daniel's vision of the statue (Dan 2.31-35): Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. The FOUR world kingdoms of man are to be followed by a fifth kingdom – Christ's. The FOURTH time Jesus is called the "Word" is in John 1:14, "And the Word was made FLESH and dwelt among us." The FOURTH time the word "Amen" is found in Revelation, it is 3:14 which says, "These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the CREATION of God." The word FLESH is used FOUR times in 1 Cor. 15:39. The word "Creature" is used FOUR times in the account of Creation (Genesis 1:20, 1:21; 1:24 and 2:19). God created FOUR things: "For by Him were all things created that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities or powers" (Col. 1:16). Creatures in FOUR places give FOUR praises to God (Rev. 5:13). The gospel is intended for "every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people" (Rev. 14:6) -- FOUR groups. All FLESH corrupts its way by eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage (Luke 17:26-27; Gen. 6:12) -- FOUR activities.

The Number FIVE -- Grace

Humans have FIVE senses. FIVE fingers on each hand and FIVE toes on each foot. The Pentateuch is FIVE books. There were FIVE offerings to be made at the Altar of Sacrifice. There were FIVE ingredients in the holy anointing oil or perfume used in the OT: myrrh, cinnamon, calamus, cassis and olive oil (Exod 30.23,24). In Genesis 32:5, Jacob connected FIVE things to GRACE when he said to Esau, "And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and manservants, and womanservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find GRACE in thy sight." The FIFTH time the name Noah appears is where it is said,"Noah found GRACE in the eyes of the Lord" (Gen. 6:8). Firstborn Israelites were redeemed with FIVE shekels apiece (Nu. 3:46-48) which pictured GRACIOUS redemption (Eph. 1:7). The FIFTH time that the name Ruth appears, we read, "And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him whose sight I shall find GRACE". The FIFTH time the name Boaz occurs is when Ruth "fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found GRACE in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?" (Ruth 2:8-10). The FIFTH time the name David is mentioned, Saul said to Jesse, "Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favor in my sight" (1 Sam. 16:22). David took FIVE smooth stones out of a brook to defeat Goliath (1 Sam. 17:40). Grace came by Christ, who has FIVE names: Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isa 9.6). There are FIVE ministries whereby God’s grace is given to the world: Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers (Eph 4:11). Jesus, out of compassion and grace fed FIVE THOUSAND men with FIVE loaves (Jn 6.1-10). In Romans 11:5-6 the word GRACE is listed FIVE times: "Even so at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of GRACE. And if by GRACE, then it is no more of works; Otherwise GRACE is no more GRACE. But if it be works then it is no more of GRACE otherwise work is no more work." The Jubilee is the FIFTIETH year, when we have LIBERTY (Lev. 25:10). The GRACIOUS outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost came FIFTY days after Christ's resurrection.

The Number SIX -- Satan

It is seven minus one, suggesting a falling short of perfection. It is remarkable that the SNAKE makes his appearance as the SIXTH character in Genesis. Man was created on the SIXTH day. Man is told to labor for SIX days till the Sabbath arrives; and a slave was to serve his master for SIX years till he is set free; and human history has a duration of SIX thousand years till the Millenium. "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand AGAINST the wiles of the devil, For we wrestle not AGAINST flesh and blood, but AGAINST principalities, AGAINST powers, AGAINST the rulers of the darkness of this world, AGAINST spiritual wickedness in high places" (Eph. 6:11-12). "AGAINST" is found SIX times in this verse. The SIXTH time Job's name occurs, in Job 1:9, it is connected with Satan. "Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?" When Israel made the golden calf, they did SIX things "(1.) They rose up early on the morrow, (2.) and offered burnt offerings, (3.) and brought peace offerings; (4.) and the people sat down to eat, (5.) and to drink, and (6.) rose up to play" (Ex. 32:6). The children of Israel lusted after SIX foods in the wilderness: "We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions and the garlick" (Nu. 11:5). When Haman's name occurred the SIXTH time in Esther 3:6, he planned to kill all the Jews. Belshazzar and his lords praised SIX types of idols: the gods of gold, silver, brass, iron, wood and stone (Dan. 5:4). Paul lists SIX kinds of men with whom we shouldn't eat: "if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner" (1 Cor. 5:11). Jesus listed SIX activities that the Sodomites engaged in: "Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heavern, and destroyed them all" (Luke 17:28). " Peter mentioned SIX sinful lifestyles: "lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries" (1 Pet. 4:3). The word "Babylon" is found SIX times in the Book of Revelation (14:8; 16:19; 17:5; 18:2; 18:10; and 18:21). The harlot has SIX identifying characteristics: She is "arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones, and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand" (Rev. 17:4). The SIXTH time the one thousand years is mentioned in Revelation 20:1-7, it is connected with Satan.

When 666 appears in the Bible it relates to either WEALTH (GOLD), IDOLATRY, or CONTROL. Solomon's WEALTH included an annual income of 666 talents of gold (1 Kings 10:14) and he subsequently descended into IDOLATRY (1 Kings 11). When a remnant returned from captivity to Jerusalem, they included 666 from the people of Adonikam (Ezra 2.13). Adonikam was a noble sent from Babylon to rebuild the Temple -- a false priest given to IDOLATRY. Goliath was SIX cubits high, his spear's head weighed SIX hundred shekels and he had SIX pieces of armour (1 Sam. 17:1-7). Nebuchadnezzar's image was SIXTY cubits high, and SIX cubits wide; and SIX instruments summoned worshippers (Dan.3:1-5). So in Nebuchadnezzar's image we see 666 is associated with GOLD, IDOLATRY and enforced IDOL WORSHIP on pain of death. More recently, "the number of the beast ... is the number of a man: his number is 666" (Rev 13.18). Here we find the Antichrist (the beast) using WEALTH (buying or selling), IDOLATRY (image worship) and extreme CONTROL over the nations on pain of death (Rev 13.11-18). In the New Testament, the letters of the Greek word "euporia", from which the word WEALTH is translated, total 666. Another word "paradosis" is translated TRADITION (see Acts 19:25; Matt. 15:2) and also totals 666. WEALTH corrupts in practice and honesty and TRADITION corrupts in doctrine. Three other Greek words which add up to 666 in the Bible are "apollumetha" (WE PERISH -- Matt. 8:25), "diasporas" (SCATTERED) and "pleuran" (SIDE). The following phrases, describing corruption and evil, are multiples of 666: "ruler of this world" (666 x 7) (John 12:31); "adversary" (666) (1 Pet. 5:8); "wonders" (666) (2 Th. 2:9); "those who worship the beast and its image" (666 x 6) (Rev. 14:11); "the kingdoms of the world" (666 x 2) (Luke 4:5); "merchants of the earth" (666) (Rev. 18:3); "and to destroy the ones destroying the earth" (666 x 5) (Rev. 13:3); "earth below" (666 x 2) (Acts 2:19); "for her sins are piled up as high as heaven" (666 x 6) (Rev. 18:5); "made clay" (666) (John 9:14). See Jerry Lucas and Del Washburn's Theomatics for more.

The Number SEVEN -- Complete

In Leviticus 23:15, the word "COMPLETE" is found with the number SEVEN. Jesus spoke SEVEN times from the cross. The SEVENTH statement was "It is FINISHED" (John 19:30). In Revelation 10:7, the word "FINISH" is found with the number SEVEN; and in Revelation 16:17 we find "IT IS DONE" associated with the number SEVEN. This verse has just SEVEN Greek letters in each word. There were SEVEN days of creation, God rested on the SEVENTH day. The SEVENTH time the name Noah occurs, he is described as "a just man and PERFECT in his generation" (Genesis 6:9). Joseph predicted SEVEN years of feast and SEVEN of famine in Egypt (Gen. 41:10,30), the SEVENTH Year Land Sabbath and SEVEN festivals are commanded (Lev. 23), the Temple was built by Solomon in SEVEN years, SEVEN trumpets were blown at Jericho (Joshua 6:3-5), Naaman washed in the river SEVEN times, there are SEVEN churches (Rev. 1-3), there are SEVEN seals, SEVEN trumpets, SEVEN bowls, SEVEN stars, SEVEN thunders, etc. The Millenium is the SEVENTH thousand year period after 6000 years of history. The Bible divides into SEVEN divisions: 1. Law, 2. Prophets, 3. Writings, 4. Gospels, 5. Acts, 6. Epistles, and 7. Revelation.

Human gestation is 280 (7 x 40) days. The human life span is usually SEVENTY years -- "threescore years and ten" (Ps. 90:10). Cells in the human body are constantly dying and being replaced. This works on a SEVEN-year cycle, whereby over a period of SEVEN years every cell in the body is replaced. The human pulse beats slower every SEVENTH day. In certain diseases, the critical days are multiples of SEVEN (7th, 14th, 21st, etc.). The rainbow is light split into its SEVEN colors. SEVEN notes in the musical scale (Do, Ra, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti). Bird eggs hatch in multiples of SEVEN days. For instance, the hen is 21 (7 x 3) days. The duck 28 (7 x 4) days. Animals have a gestation period that is a multiple of SEVEN days: the mouse is 21 (7 x 3) days. The hare and rat 28 (7 x 4) days. The cat 56 (7 x 8) days. The dog 63 (7 x 9) days. The lion 98 (7 x 14) days, the sheep 147 (7 x 21) days.

The human body has a SEVEN-day clock. The science of chronobiology describes circaseptan rhythms or body rhythms that run about SEVEN days in length. That is why we should rest every SEVEN days (Exod 20.10)! The 10-day week of the humanistic French Revolution, and the 'continuous work week' of the Russian Revolution both failed for this very reason. Researchers report 'a built-in (genetically determined) SEVEN-day (circaseptan) period' in connection with human organ transplants. Swelling or rejection of an organ transplant tends to follow a circaseptan rhythm i.e. about 7 or 14 (7 × 2) days after surgery. It is claimed that this rhythm also applies to the immune response to infections, blood and urine chemicals, blood pressure and the common cold. Circaseptan (7-day) rhythms have been detected in simple plant life. Man's pulse beats on the SEVEN-day principle. For six days out of the SEVEN it beats faster in the morning than in the evening, while on the SEVENTH day it beats slower. Thus the number SEVEN IS STAMPED UPON PHYSIOLOGY, and he is thus admonished, as man, to rest one day in SEVEN. He cannot violate this law with impunity, for it is interwoven with his very being.

SEVENTY descendants of Shem, Ham and Japheth were engaged in renewing, restoring and repopulating the earth after the flood. Also SEVENTY Israelites went down into Egypt at Joseph's request to dwell in the land of Goshen. Moses also chose SEVENTY elders to assist him in judging Israel. Judah was SEVENTY years in captivity in Babylon. SEVENTY prophetic weeks were determined until Christ would come (Dan. 9:24-27). Jesus sent out SEVENTY men to proclaim the gospel and heal the sick (Luke 10).

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1)

Ivan Panin carefully examined the Hebrew text of Genesis 1:1 and discovered an amazing phenomenon of multiples of SEVEN that could not be explained by mere chance. Genesis 1:1 was composed of SEVEN Hebrew words containing 28 letters. Throughout the Bible the number seven appears repeatedly as a symbol of divine perfection.

In total, Panin discovered 30 separate codes involving the number SEVEN in this first verse of the Bible.

Here is a partial list of the features he found in Genesis 1:
1. The number of Hebrew words = 7
2. The number of letters equals 28 (7 x 4 = 28)
3. The first three Hebrew words translated "In the beginning God created" contain 14 letters
(7 x 2 = 14)
4. The last four Hebrew words "the heavens and the earth" have 14 letters (7 x 2 = 14)
5. The fourth and fifth words have 7 letters
6. The sixth and seventh words have 7 letters
7. The three key words: God, heaven and earth have 14 letters (7 x 2 = 14)
8. The number of letters in the four remaining words is also 14 (7 x 2 = 14)
9. The shortest word in the verse is the middle word with 7 letters
10. The Hebrew numeric value of the first, middle and last letters is 133 (7 x 19 = 133)
11. The Hebrew numeric value of the first and last letters of all seven words is 1393 (7 x 199 = 1393)

When professors on the mathematics faculty at Harvard University were presented with this biblical phenomenon they naturally attempted to disprove its significance as a proof of divine authorship. However, after valiant efforts these professors were unable to duplicate this incredible mathematical phenomenon. The Harvard scientists used the English language and artificially assigned numeric values to the English alphabet. They had a potential vocabulary of over 400,000 available English words to choose from to construct a sentence about any topic they chose. Compare this to the limitations of word choices in the biblical Hebrew language which has only forty-five hundred available word choices that the writers of the Old Testament could use. Despite their advanced mathematical abilities and access to computers the mathematicians were unable to come close to incorporating 30 mathematical multiples of SEVEN as found in the Hebrew words of Genesis 1:1.

The number "SEVEN" permeates the totality of Scripture because the number speaks of God's divine perfection and perfect order. The actual number "SEVEN" appears 287 times in the Old Testament (7 x 41 = 287) while the word "SEVENTH" occurs 98 times (7 x 14 = 98). The word "SEVEN-FOLD" appears seven times. In addition, the word "SEVENTY" is used 56 times (7 x 8 = 56).

Ivan Panin discovered literally thousands of such mathematical patterns underlying all of the books of the Old Testament before his death in 1942. I refer the interested reader to Panin's book, The Inspiration of the Scriptures Scientifically Demonstrated, which discusses these phenomena extensively. Panin and others have examined other Hebrew literature and have attempted to find such mathematical patterns, but they are not found anywhere outside the Bible.

If we look at the first 17 verses of the New Testament in the Gospel of Matthew, the genealogy of our Lord contains 72 Greek vocabulary words in these 17 verses:

1 The number of words which are nouns is exactly 56 (7 x 8).
2 The Greek word "the" occurs most frequently in the passage: exactly 56 times (7 x 8).
3 Also, the number of different forms in which the article "the" occurs is exactly 7.
4 There are two main sections in the passage: verse 1-11 and 12-17. In the first section, the number of Greek vocabulary words used is 49 (7 x 7).
5 Of these 49 words, The number of those beginning with a vowel is 28 (7 x 4).
6 The number of words beginning with a consonant is 21 (7 x 3).
7 The total number of letters in these 49 words is exactly 266 (7 x 38).
8 The numbers of vowels among these 266 letters is 140 (7 x 20).
9 The number of consonants is 126 (7 x 18).
10 Of these 49 words, the number of words which occur more than once is 35 (7 x 5).
11 The number of words occurring only once is 14 (7 x 2).
12 The number of words which occur in only one form is exactly 42 (7 x 6).
13 The number of words appearing in more than one form is also 7.
14 The number of 49 Greek vocabulary words which are nouns is 42 (7 x 6).
15 The number of words which are not nouns is 7.
16 Of the nouns, 35 are proper names (7 x 5).
17 These 35 nouns are used 63 times (7 x 9).
18 The number of male names is 28 (7 x 4).
19 These male names occur 56 times (7 x 8).
20 The number which are not male names is 7.
21 Three women are mentioned --Tamar, Rahab, and Ruth. The number of Greek letters in these three names is 14 (7 x 2).
22 The number of compound nouns is 7.
23 The number of Greek letters in these 7 nouns is 49 (7 x 7).
24 Only one city is named in this passage, Babylon, which in Greek contains exactly 7 letters.

The Pattern of SEVENS in Matthew 1:18-25:
1. The number of words in the seven word passage is 161 (7 x 23 = 161)
2. The number of Vocabulary words is 77 (7 x 11 = 77)
3. Six Greek words occur only in this passage and never again in Matthew. These six Greek words contain precisely 56 letters (7 x 8 = 56)
4. The number of distinct proper names in the passage is 7
5. The number of Greek letters in these seven proper names is 42 (7 x 6 = 42)
6. The number of words spoken by the angel to Joseph is 28 (7 x 4 = 28)
7. The number of Greek forms of words used in this passage is 161 (7 x 23 = 161)
8. The number of Greek forms of words in the angel's speech is 35 (7 x 5 = 35)
9. The number of letters in the angel's 35 forms of words is 168 (7 x 24 = 168)

This phenomenal discovery by Panin has been examined by many authorities and the figures have been verified. Panin accumulated over forty thousand pages of detailed calculations covering most of the text of the Bible before his death. These amazing mathematical patterns are not limited to the number SEVEN. There are many other patterns. But let us concentrate for now on the number 777: "love of God" (777) (Rom. 8:39). "A measuring reed" (777) (Rev. 21:15). Christ said: "I am the resurrection". In Greek, the word "resurrection" adds up to 777 (= 8+1+50+1+200+300+1+200+10+6). Written in Hebrew, "Orthodox Messiah", gives 777: he, mem, shin, yod, heth, daleth, taw and yod, giving 5+40+300+10+8+4+400+10 = 777. Written in Hebrew, "YHWH in the YESHUA Messiah", gives 777: yod, he, waw, he, beth, yod, shin, waw, ayin, he, mem, shin, yod and heth, giving 10+5+6+5+2+10+300+6+70+5+40+300+10+8 = 777. Written in Hebrew, "YESHUA saves", gives 777: yod, shin, waw, ayin, he, waw, shin, yod and ayin, giving 10+300+6+70+5+6+300+10+70 = 777. The numerical value of the Hebrew word NMLA IVMM, meaning "filled with light", gives 777. The number 777 is used 1 time in the Bible -- Lamech's age (Gen. 5:31). The word priest is used 777 times in the Bible.

The Number EIGHT -- New Birth

The number EIGHT signifies resurrection or a new beginning. For example, EIGHT persons were saved in the Ark, for the purpose of replenishing the earth after the Flood (Gen. 7:13; 1 Pet. 3:20) which is a marvellous picture or type of Him who was to be the Resurrection and the Life. The EIGHT persons of course being a type of resurrection, in their new beginning. A male baby (a new creation) was circumcised on the EIGHTH day (Gen 17.12). This marked their new beginning under God’s covenant. Bethlehem of Judea, the birthplace of Christ, is mentioned exactly EIGHT times in the N.T. David was the EIGHTH son of Jesse (1 Sam. 17:12-14). The Church was also established on the EIGHTH day -- Pentecost.

Colossians 3:9 shows EIGHT things that are connected with the new man: "Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the NEW MAN, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek, nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all." Peter gives EIGHT characteristics of godliness: "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the DIVINE NATURE, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity" (2 Pet. 1:4-7). In our Lord's conversation with Nicodemus on the subject of being "BORN AGAIN," the word "BORN" occurs EIGHT times (John 3:3-8). The original Greek uses EIGHT words in the EIGHTH and last statement: "So is everyone that is BORN of the spirit." Also there are EIGHT Greek words in the statement, "and that which is BORN of the spirit is spirit" (John 3:6). Furthermore, Paul used EIGHT Greek words when he said, "And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one BORN out of due time" (1 Cor. 15:8). There are also EIGHT Greek words in the statement, "and every one that loveth is BORN of God" (1 John 4:7).

Jesus said, “I am the Resurrection and the Life” (John 11:25). Would not God if He were expressing truths in these numbers somehow set this number EIGHT in the Name of Him who is the Resurrection Himself. “And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Y’shua (Jesus).” (Matthew 1:21) Now, amazing though it may seem, when we add the letter values of Jesus in the Greek, the total is exactly 888. Now, Jesus was called the Christ, and the gematria of the Christ is 1,480, which is 185 x 8. He was also called the “Saviour,” which strangely has a value of 1,408, being 2 x 8 x 88. He was also “Lord,” which again is a multiple of 8, being 800, 100 x 8. Yet another, “Messiah,” 656, or 82 x 8. Jesus usually termed Himself, “The Son of Man” - this term occurs 88 times and its gematria is 2,960, which is 370 x 8. He also said, I am “The Truth” being 64, or 8 x 8. Jesus: 888 = 111 x 8; the Christ: 1,480 = 185 x 8; Savior: 1,480 = 176 x 8; Lord: 800 = 100 x 8; Messiah: 656 = 82 x 8; the Son of Man: 2,960 = 370 x 8; the Truth: 64 = 8 x 8. See Jerry Lucas and Del Washburn's Theomatics for more.

In Revelation, the RESURRECTION is spoken of as “The Harvest,” the gematria of which is 704, 8 x 88. Now is it not strange that the gematria of “Saviour,” who is the Lord of the Harvest, is exactly double that of the harvest He reaps, 16 x 88, and 8 x 88. This phenomenon is amplified by the fact that the words for bridegroom and bride, which, of course, refer to the same two, bear the same phenomenon in respect to the number of times they occur, namely, bridegroom 16 times and bride 8 times. David was the EIGHTH son of Jesse, and David was a type of Christ, who is the Resurrection and the Life. Is it not remarkable also that the last book of the Bible is called the Revelation of Jesus Christ, and the vocabulary of the book contains exactly 888 words. Furthermore, the name Jesus appears 888 times in the New Testament.

The Number NINE -- Fruit of the Spirit

There are NINE fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal 5.22,23). There are NINE gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor 12.8-11): "For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will."

There are NINE Beatitudes (Mat 5.3-11): "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake."

Jesus completed His work on the cross "about the NINTH hour" (Mat 27.46). The sum of the numeric values of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet is 4995 = 5 × 999. This implies that the Hebrew alphabet is 'watermarked' with the divine attributes of grace and completness! In terms of judgment, in the Bible NINE persons are stoned to death, there are NINE widows, NINE persons are afflicted with blindness and NINE persons are afflicted with leprosy.

The four opening words of the Bible, “IN THE BEGINNING GOD.” God has so controlled every Hebrew letter in that statement that its numeric value is exactly 999. There should be something in the ending as well that is final. In Revelation we read how God’s wrath is to be poured out at the close of this age. Now that term, “MY WRATH” has also this same significant value, 999. The Greek word “AMEN” usually translated “VERILY,” is so often used by Christ when driving home a vital truth - “Verily, verily, I say unto you.” He uses this word 99 times, and its value is exactly 99. Surely these hidden numbers speak even louder than words. Here is another fact of sublime significance. We know that all the prophecies concerning the death of Christ were exactly fulfilled; and now we see that the work of redemption was completed at the NINTH HOUR. We read that Pilate marveled that Jesus was already dead - not the only thing Pilate marveled at - but as for the NINTH hour, that was God’s timing. At this same hour the earth shook, and the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom, signifying ACCESS to God by his BLOOD. Remember also Christ’s words at this NINTH hour - “IT IS FINISHED.” Redemption is by BLOOD alone. It is God’s seal, from Genesis to Revelation. I would remind my readers, have no delusions about this; it is absolutely FINAL with God, as with VERILY, the word BLOOD occurs exactly 99 times. Here also in judgment we see the same finality pointers, for BOTTOMLESS PIT occurs exactly NINE times, so also does REST. (See The Arithmetic of God by Don Kistler).

The Number TEN -- Law

The TEN commandments specify God's basic laws. The tithe was ONE-TENTH. There were TEN linen curtains in the Tabernacle (Ex. 26:1-3). The Passover Lamb which was a type of Christ (1 Cor. 5:7) was chosen on the TENTH day of the month (Ex. 12:3). Boaz took TEN men of the elders of the city to Kinsman-Redeem a property (Ruth 4:1-11). The TEN TOES of Dan 2 and the TEN KINGS of Rev 17.12 will be judged by a LAW. There were TEN plagues upon Egypt (Exod 7 – 14). There were TEN cities of refuge in Israel. There were TEN tribes in the separate Kingdom of Israel. This is why in the New Testament, our Lord refers to TEN pounds, TEN virgins, TEN lepers, etc. The following scriptures pertaining to the LAW have exactly TEN Greek words in them. "Think not that I am come to destroy the LAW, or the prophets" (Matt. 5:17). "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat" (Matt. 23:2). "Take ye him, and judge him according to your LAW" (John 18:31). "For all the prophets and the LAW prophesied until John" (Matt. 11:13). "That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the LAW of Moses" (Acts 15:5). "Therefore by the deeds of the LAW there shall no flesh be justified in his sight" (Rom. 3:20). "Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what LAW?" (Rom. 3:26). "But Israel, which followed after the LAW of righteousness, hath not attained to the LAW of righteousness" (Rom. 9:31). "Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the LAW" (Rom. 9:32). "For it is written in the LAW of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the grain" (1 Cor. 9:9). "Is the LAW then against the promises of God? God forbid" (Gal. 3:21). "For all the LAW is fulfilled in one word" (Gal. 5:14).

The Number ELEVEN -- Judgment

Canaan had ELEVEN sons and Noah said, "Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brethren" (Gen. 9:20-25). Esau also had ELEVEN sons (Gen. 36:40-43) and Esau sold his birthright (Gen. 25:29-34) and lost his blessing (Gen. 27). Dinah was the ELEVENTH child born unto Jacob and her name means JUDGMENT (Gen. 20:32; 30:21). In the ELEVENTH year of Ezekiel's prophecy, he foretold the JUDGMENT that would come on Tyrus (Ez. 26:1-14). Isaiah foretold the JUDGMENT that would come to Judah by naming ELEVEN different types of men: "For behold the Lord, the Lord of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water (1) the mighty man, and (2) the man of war, (3) the judge, and (4) the prophet, and (5) the prudent, and (6) the ancient, (7) the captain of fifty, and (8) the honorable man, and (9) the counsellor, and (10) the cunning artificer and (11) the eloquent orator." (Isa. 3:1-3). The judgment which Isaiah foretold then came. King Zedekiah, a wicked king, reigned ELEVEN years and brought chaos and death on the inhabitants of Jerusalem (Jer 52.1-11). There were ELEVEN disciples after one had been judged and taken away. Noah's JUDGMENT (Heb. 11:7) tells us that in preparing the ark, Noah condemned the world. The name Noah occurs the ELEVENTH time in Genesis 6:22 when "Thus did Noah, according to all that God commanded him, so did he" (6:22). John 3:18 says, "But he that believeth not, already hath been JUDGED." The phrase "already hath been JUDGED" has exactly ELEVEN letters in Greek. They are "ADA KEKRIT AI." James 3:1 says, "My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation (JUDGMENT)." This statement has ELEVEN Greek words. The two Greek words for the "GREATER JUDGMENT" have ELEVEN Greek letters. Hebrews 11:29 says, "By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned." The phrase "were drowned" has exactly ELEVEN Greek letters.

The Number TWELVE -- Government

Jacob has TWELVE sons and TWELVE princes of Ishmael. Solomon appointed TWELVE officers over Israel (1 Kings 4.7). TWELVE stones were in the breastplate. Jesus chose TWELVE disciples and He said to them: "you also shall sit upon TWELVE thrones, judging the TWELVE tribes of Israel." (Matt. 19.28). There are TWELVE signs of the zodiac (in the AV Job 38.32 refers to 'Mazzaroth' meaning twelve signs; Judges 5:20-21). The stars are seasonal signs to help man govern his life (Gen 1.14). So we have TWELVE months of the year. "Are there not TWELVE hours in the day?" (John 11:9). The sun rules for TWELVE hours and the moon rules for TWELVE hours (Gen. 1:16). The Tabernacle where God dwelt (Ex. 25:8) was TWELVE cubits wide. See Ezekiel 41:1 which has six plus six cubits making TWELVE. Each board was a cubit and a half wide (Ex. 26:14-16) and there were eight boards (Ex. 26:25) making TWELVE cubits. Elijah had four barrels of water poured three times over the altar, making TWELVE barrels (1 Ki. 18:22-44). "At the end of TWELVE months" Nebuchadnezzar lost his human reason (Dan. 4:29-32). In Matthew 1:23 we read, "they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us." This statemdent has TWELVE Greek words. , and the words "God with us" have TWELVE Greek letters. In Matthew 7:29 we read, "For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes". This passage has exactly TWELVE Greek words. The two Greek words "having authority" have exactly TWELVE Greek letters. In John 3:35 we read, "The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand." This verse has TWELVE Greek words. The phrase "hath given all things" has exactly TWELVE Greek letters. After Jesus fed the 5000, he gathered up TWELVE baskets (Matt. 14:15-20). The woman has TWELVE stars in her crown (Rev. 12). The new Jerusalem (God’s perfect kingdom) has TWELVE gates with TWELVE pearls and TWELVE foundation stones (Rev 21. 12,14) and TWELVE fruits coming from the Tree of Life in the New Jerusalem. The city measures 12,000 furlongs in every direction, the wall is 144 cubits high. The sun completes its circuit in TWELVE months. Jupiter completes its circuit in TWELVE years. Now 12 x 10 = 120. "The Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a HUNDRED and TWENTY years" (Gen. 6:3). Now 12 x 12 = 144 (Rev. 14:1). The following phrases, describing Israelites, are multiples of 144: "The elect" (144) (Rom. 11:7); "Believers" (144 x 10) (1 Tim. 4:12); "The flock of God" (144 x 6) (1 Pet. 5:2); "Saints" (144 x 6) (1 Th. 3:13); "Those whom thou hast given me" (144 x 8) (John 17:24); "Come out, my people" (144 x 9) (Rev. 18:4); "Compel them to come in" (144 x 5) (Luke 14:23); "Kingdom of heaven" (144 x 20) (Matt. 3:2); "Marriage feast for the son" (144 x 21) (Matt. 22:2); "They shall walk in white" (144 x 16) (Rev. 3:4); "The faith" (144 x 7) (Rev. 2:13; 14:12); "purchased firstfruits" (144 x 10) (Rev. 14:4); "new name" (144 x 3) (Rev. 2:17); "priests of God" (144 x 11) (Rev. 20:6); "Saints" (144 x 6) (Rev. 8:3); "In Isaac shall thy seed be called" (144 x 1) (Rom. 9:7); "Clouds" (144 x 10) (Rev. 1:7); "The bride, the wife of the Lamb" (144 x 20) (Rev. 21:9); "Jerusalem" (144 x 6) (Rev. 3:12) and "Church not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that it may be holy and unblemished" (144 X 54) (Eph. 5:27) "Redemption" (144) (Ex. 21:30). "You will be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city" (144 x 9) (Isa. 1:26).

The Number THIRTEEN -- Rebellion

In Genesis 14:4 we read, "Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the THIRTEENTH year they rebelled." Nimrod was the THIRTEENTH generation from Adam through Ham. Nimrod was also the THIRTEENTH name given in the lineage of Ham: 1. Ham, 2. Cush, 3. Misraim, 4. Phut, 5. Canaan, 6. Seba, 7. Havilah, 8. Sebtah, 9. Raamah, 10. Sebtechah, 11. Sheba, 12. Dedan, and 13. Nimrod. "And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel" (Gen. 10:10) which led to the rebellious tower of Babel. All the UNGODLY lines are marked by 13 in the numeric value of their names. Dr. Bullinger has shown that the names of the kings of the 10 tribes of Israel who FORSOOK God are all marked with 13. These facts are almost incredible, for they reveal not only that God knew the course of each before they were born, but caused them to be so named that the numeric value of each would be a multiple of 13. In Genesis 10 there is a remarkable instance of 13. Joktan was the ancestor of a SINFUL and REBELLIOUS race of people. He was the 13th in the order of children of Shem. Joktan had 13 sons, the gematria of his name is 169, 13 x 13, and the gematria of that of his 13 sons is 2,756, 212 x 13. This really amounts to a numerical prophecy of a REBELLIOUS race. The number 13 represents SIN and REBELLION. Ishmael was 13 years old when circumcised (Gen. 17:25), and it was prophesied of him that he would be a WILD man. How truly this was borne out, even in his offspring. Solomon was seven years building the temple, but 13 years building HIS OWN HOUSE. The truth expressed by these two numbers was also borne out not only in his own life but also in that of the nation. Of the 20 Kings of Judah (including Athaliah) seven were righteous rulers while 13 TURNED AWAY from God. Haman had a decree signed on the THIRTEENTH day of the first month to kill all Jews in one day "upon the THIRTEENTH day of the twelfth month" (Esther 3:12-13). Our Lord lists THIRTEEN characteristics of a depraved heart in Mark 7:21-22: These are evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemies, pride, foolishness. There were THIRTEEN present at the Last Supper and one of these -- Judas -- was a traitor. The word "Satan" is mentioned THIRTEEN times in the Apocalypse. The word "DRAGON" appears THIRTEEN times in Revelation. “Klepton,” meaning to STEAL, occurs exactly 13 times. Another striking example is the word “zume,” LEAVEN, which represents sin in the Scripture. It occurs 13 times, and its gematria is 455, or 35 x 13. "BACKSLIDING" and "HYPOCRITE" each occur 13 times in the O.T. All through the Scripture we see this pointer of sin, but the most significant are those where the author of sin, SATAN, is branded by God with this, his own trademark. Look at some of his titles. DRAGON occurs exactly 13 times, and its gematria is 975 (75 x 13); TEMPTER 1,053 (81 x 13); BELIAL 78 (6 x 13s); MURDERER 1,820 (140 x 13); SERPENT 780 (60 x 13). But the most significant of them all; that phrase used by the Holy Spirit in Revelation 12:9, “called the Devil and Satan,” bears the amazing gematria 2,197 or 13 x 13 x 13.

“As Moses lifted up the serpent so must the Son of Man be lifted up.” (John 3:14) Now notice: “For He (God) has made Him (Christ) to be SIN for us (He) who knew no sin; that we may be made the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Cor. 5:21) So, when Jesus hung upon the Cross He was made the extreme representation of SIN. This is why God withdrew His presence (Mark 15:34). God then moved Pilate to write an inscription with the words “JESUS OF NAZARETH.” The gematria of this title which was placed on the very Cross (2 Cor. 5:21) when Jesus was made SIN for us, is exactly 2,197 or 13 x 13 x 13.

The Number THIRTY -- Rulership

Genesis 41:46 says, "And Joseph was THIRTY years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt." The name Judah (Yehuda) has a gematria of THIRTY and Yehuda was the king of the tribes, and from Yehuda descended the true kings of the Jewish people. Genesis 49:9-10 says, "Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? The SCEPTER shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. Priestly service began at the age of THIRTY (Num. 4:2-3; 4:21-23; 4:29). Samson killed THIRTY Philistines (Judges 14:19). 2 Samuel 5:4 says, "David was THIRTY years old when he began to REIGN, and he reigned forty years." Luke 3:23 says, "And Yeshua himself began to be about THIRTY years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli." In Yeshua's last hours before death He was sold for THIRTY shekels (Matt. 26:14). Exodus 31:32 says, "If the ox gore a manservant or a maidservant he (the owner) shall give unto their master THIRTY shekels of silver. Numbers 20:29 says, "And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron THIRTY days, even all the house of Israel. The entire house of Israel mourned Aaron for THIRTY days."

The moon completes its circuit in THIRTY days. Saturn completes its circuit in THIRTY years. Thus Rosh Chodesh is every twenty-nine or THIRTY days.

Elul is the last month in the Jewish calendar. We are to spend this month preparing for the upcoming High Holidays. Because God judges and sentences the entire world on Rosh HaShana and Yom HaKippurim, it is only fitting that we try to correct our flaws and repent before that time. That way, when we come before God for judgment on these festivals, we will find favor in His eyes (assuming our repentance was sincere) and be judged for a good year. With only twenty-nine days left in the year, Elul is a time of yearning, forgiveness and return. The THIRTIETH day is Rosh HaShana -- the CROWNING of a KING. Elul is, therefore, a time of transition from being estranged from HaShem to drawing near to HaShem. The King of Nineveh led his people to repentance when he was informed through the Prophet Jonah that God would destroy Nineveh in THIRTY days if the people did not repent. Jonah began preaching on Elul one (Jonah 3:1-10). Thus the people of Nineveh were at a point of transition. Their repentance proved that the KING was able to lead his people in repentance.

The Number FORTY -- Trial & Test

But that is not all, for FORTY is God ’s time number of probation all through the Bible. For example, the flood was FORTY days and FORTY nights; Moses was FORTY days on the mount (Ex. 24:18); Moses was actually FORTY years in Egypt and FORTY years in Midian before he spent another FORTY years wandering with Israel in the wilderness (Heb. 3:8-9); Elijah travelled FORTY days and nights to Horeb. Goliath defied Israel for FORTY days. Nineveh had FORTY days to repent. Ezekiel spoke of the FORTY years of Judah's transgression. Christ was FORTY days in the desert (Mark 1:12-13). He also was FORTY days on the earth after His resurrection. Judah had FORTY years of probation of testing from from the crucifixion until the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, during which time they rejected the gospel message.

The Number ONE HUNDRED FIFTY-THREE -- Multitudes

The Greek word for Rebecca adds up to 153. The following phrases, describing fish, are multiples of 153: "Fishes" (153 x 8) (Luke 9:13); "the net" (153 x 8) (John 21:11); "casting a net into the sea" (153 x 20) (Matt. 4:18); "the door" (153 x 6) (Luke 13:25); "the narrow gate" (153 x 13) (Matt. 7:13); "a fish will ask not a serpent will give him" (153 x 32) (Matt. 7:10); "and a fish lying on" (153 x 13) (John 21:9); "gives to them the fish" (153 x 20) (John 21:13); "over fish of the sea" (153 x 3) (Gen. 1:26); ; "third part of creatures in sea" (153 x 35) (Rev. 8:9); "makest man like fishes of the sea" (153 x 6) (Hab. 1:14); "seeing the multitudes" (153 x 21) (Matt. 5:1); "the multitude around him" (153 x 12) (Matt. 8:18); "sand upon the shore" (153 x 8) (Judges 7:12); "sand of sea to be great" (153 x 2) (Gen. 41:49); "the people Israel like the sand" (153 x 5) (Isa. 10:22).
